Farmhouse of an ancient Western Schleswig farm from 1792. The cowshed wing was pulled down in 1971. FDB (The Danish Co-operative Retail and Wholesale Society) gave the farmhouse to a museum which today comprises a variety of art- and culture-historical exhibitions.

Drøhses Hus is a branch of Tønder Museum. The house belongs to one of Tønder's beautiful commoner houses of the sixteenth and seventeenth century, situated in the middle of the pedestrian street. The beautifully restored gabled house contains various special lace exhibitions from the collections of Tønder Museum and from private collections.

The exhibitions show the distinctive way of life owing to the special conditions at the Wadden Sea. Photos and texts, tools and models about boats and boat's people in the Marshland, the building of dikes and floodgates and many other things.

Today the farm of Hans and Hansigne Lorenzen has been converted into a museum. On the ground floor six rooms are fitted up like the rooms on the ancient farms in the Western part of the region. On the first floor you will find a lace room and a living room. The lace room was also used as classroom for the lace pupils of Catrine Lorenzen. The living room reflects the original surroundings on Rømø with alcoves, wall seat etc.

Tønder Museum was founded in 1923. The main collections were - and still are - the art industry of Western Schleswig; silver work manufactured by local silversmiths. Their great period in Tønder was from 1750 to 1825.

Nationalmuseets Kommandørgård dates back to 1748 and reflects the wealth which the commodores brought to Rømø (1700-1800). Nationalmuseets Kommandørgård is fully restored with panels, ceilings and doors. The walls are covered with Dutch tiles and the inventory is extremely noble compared to the usual standards of that time.

Skærbæk Museum is established in an ancient merchant's house built in 1909 by the architect Kaj Gottlob. As the only museum in the western part of the Region Skærbæk Museum has specialized in the daily work and conditions of the great majority of the population, with special attention to the historical and cultural situation in the Region.

Sønderjyllands Kunstmuseum is the main museum of art in the Region. After a comprehensive rebuilding and expansion the museum reopened in the spring of 1999. The new Sønderjyllands Kunstmuseum comprises two large exhibition halls, six exhibition ateliers and two small exhibition rooms.

The old water tower of Tønder dates back from 1902 and is situated in continuation of the Tønder Museum. It was rebuilt in 1995 to an exciting setting for an exhibition showing the chairs of the internationally well-known architect Hans J. Wegner. There is a fantastic view of the Tønder Marsh and city from the upper level of the water tower.

The museum is focusing on the airship base of the German navy from 1914-1920. The airship base was a Danish garrison from 1920-1936. The exhibition is arranged in a building at the previous base area comprising photos, documents and objects from the short, dramatic period where Tønder domiciled the largest airship plant in Northern Europe and documentation material about the Danish garrison.
